Minute to minute coverage of Microsoft event Launching widows 10 devices

Microsoft is hosting its big Windows 10event today in New York. It is likely that the event will last for two and a half hours and Microsoft will have some marathon announcements.

Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL are expected and will be the showcase devices for Redmond’s Windows 10 mobile ambitions. Also Microsoft is expected to refresh its Surface Pro 3 with new Intel Skylake chipset and 4K display. The new device is expected to be named Surface Pro 4 and will be thinner and lighter than the predecessor. Microsoft Band 2 is also confirmed to make an appearance at the event. The Microsoft Band 2 is expected to feature a curved display and metal accents around that curved display.

On the software side, Microsoft may announce release date for Windows 10 mobile and also reveal details on the refinements to Windows 10 OS with threshold 2 update about to rollout in November.

The event starts at 10AM ET in New York which translates to 7.30PM IST.

What is Google Pixel C?

First and foremost Google Pixel C is not a nexus tablet just because it runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). It is a new product from Google in it's Pixel family.It is a successor to Chromebook Pixel and looks like it. It is 10 inch tablet, looks beautiful and has some premium specs.

Google went on with Nvidia again for the tablet's processor. The Pixel C has an Nvidia X1 quad core processor with Maxwell GPU. It comes with 3GB of RAM. The screen(an IPS panel) has a good resolution of 2560 x 1800 pixels with 308ppi (pixels per inch), at least it better than 1080p. The screen has a 500 nits brightness and sRGB color gamut. The thing that is catchy about the Pixel C is the keyboard accessory. With that it seems to me as a good competitor to Microsoft Surface Pro 3 which is the best in the market at the moment in performance as a tablet with keyboard. The Pixel C has a keyboard just like the Chromebook Pixel's but smaller in size. It has a powerful magnet attached to it so that it connects with the tablet nicely. The tablet even does not get removed from the keyboard when holding upside down. Another thing I liked about the keyboard is that it connects with Bluetooth and gets charged from the tablet when the tablet is closed. There is no need for charging the keyboard separately. The keyboard does not have some keys; Google removed the less used keys and relocated them onto the onscreen display. Because of the powerful magnets the Pixel C feels like a solid laptop.

The tablet also comes with the new USB Type - C as in Nexus 5X and 6P. You can also exchange their chargers for charging. The Pixel C also has some bigger stereo speakers on the front for a good sound. It also has 4 microphones for interactions across the room. It also has feature that if you double tap on the light bar it will tell you the battery.

The Pixel C is little less expensive than some other options like it. It is priced at $499 (Rs. 32,550) for the 32GB model and $599 (Rs. 39,050) for the 64GB model. The keyboard accessory costs $149 (Rs. 9720). Google said that the tablet will be released around holidays.

YU Yutopia To Ship In Two RAM Variants, Spec Info Leaks

YU is an India-based smartphone manufacturer owned by Micromax, the country’s number one OEM. YU is a very young company, it was founded last year, and they’ve released four devices thus far,Yureka, Yuphoria, Yureka Plus and Yunique. All of these devices are quite affordable, but neither of them is exactly high-end. Well, that might change soon considering YU is working on a new device which will be called Yutopia, and it seems like it will be a true flagship for this India-based company.

A couple of days ago, the alleged retail packaging of this phoneleaked along with its partial specifications. Well, a new leak surfaced recently, revealing even more spec info. The Yu5050 device surfaced on AnTuTu earlier this month, and today’s info actually goes hand-in-hand with that listing. The YU Yutopia will reportedly feature a 5.2-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 3/4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Initially we though that the device will ship in 4GB variant only, but it seems like YU might offer more choices to their consumers, so a 3GB model seems like a probable outcome. The device will be fueled by the Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor by Qualcomm, along with an Adreno 430 GPU for graphics processing. The 21-megapixel shooter will be available on the back of this phone, and an 8-megapixel snapper will be available on its front side.

The device will offer support for 4G LTE connectivity, and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will come pre-installed here. In addition, This smartphone will almost certainly ship with Cyanogen OS installed on top of Google’s operating system considering all of YU’s smartphone did up to this point. We still don’t know what will YU Yutopia look like, but we’ll hopefully find out soon. The device’s design will leak sooner or later, and we’re also expecting the company to unveil this smartphone in the coming weeks. We still don’t know when exactly will that happen, but you surely can expect it to launch before the holiday season. Samsung Galaxy Note 5 @ its best

The concept Galaxy Note 5 is at once a thing of genius and a nod to a benighted world before the modern touchscreen. Born in the swamps of the resistive LCD, the stylus lurched onto dry land and lives on as a reminder of our history. It is, to be sure, useful but on the Galaxy Note 5 it is a vestigial tool useful in parts of the world where handwriting is easier than tapping.

But what does this mean for the modern smartphone owner? First, it means the Note is unique among the plethora of alternatives. You really have to be into stylii to even consider the note, especially when the similarly sized Galaxy 6 edge+ is far easier on the eyes. I would say this phone is for the aforementioned folks who prefer handwriting their notes, contractors/students/engineers who want to sketch out ideas, and artists who want to grab a quick image or two on the go. For everyone else you can probably ignore this phone entirely.

First, understand that this phone has a major flaw. If you insert the stylus the wrong way you will break it. And it is very easy to insert the stylus the wrong way. Because it is not contoured, the bottom slides into the hard penhole as easily as the tip of the stylus. Then you’re stuck. You can either pull the stylus out by force and break a microswitch that notifies the OS that the pen is being inserted or leave the pen where it is and live your life in shame.In short, if you have a little kid or kids or you’re particularly absent-minded you should probably not get this phone. Samsung, for their part, encourages you to read the manual before incorrectly inserting the pen. This is an interesting strategy last used by my mother when I had bronchitis and I complained of chest pain. “If it hurts to breathe,” she said. “Stop breathing.”

If you’re still with me, you’re in for a treat. The Galaxy Note 5 is one of the nicest Notes ever. Whereas the previous incarnations were slightly chintzy with their odd leatherette housings and plastic bezels, this one takes a number of cues from the current Galaxy line. There are four buttons – home, volume controls, and power on the side – and a hole for the pen on the bottom. It has an amazingly bright and readable 5.7 inch screen with a octa-core Exynos 7420 chipset with four cores running 2.1GHz and four running at 1.5GHz. It also has 4GB of RAM. This is almost the same setup as the Galaxy S6 edge+. What does that mean in practice? It means that everything about this phone flies. Whether you’re swapping from app to app or pulling out the pen to write something down, there is no discernible lag.

The phone does not have a removable battery or SD card, which will disappoint road warriors who depend on those tools to keep themselves sane. However, it does last for about 18 hours – a full day if you’re careful – and lasted for two days on standby. Heavy use will obviously drain the battery more quickly thanks to the huge screen and powerful processors but I expect you’ll get a workday out of it without trouble.

The Good

In short, the Note 5 is the “note phone” perfected. It is far nicer than the previous versions and for folks in love with the idea of a stylus this is probably the only phone worthy of attention. It has a great rear camera that took excellent shots, a nice front camera, and acceptable video recording performance. I actually came away more impressed with the camera/sensor/software solution in these new phones, something that I haven’t always been able to say for Samsung devices.

Interestingly the company has also launched something called SideSync which mimics the iPhone’s ability to transfer calls to compatible computers. SideSync lets you answer calls and send texts as well as share files with your computer. It works for PC right now and will soon be available for the Mac.

Google Answers to Questions related to Nexus 5X and 6P

Following Google's announcement of its latest Nexus smartphones, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, the Nexus team has taken to Reddit to engage with the community in an AMA. Google's Hiroshi Lockheimer, David Burke, Krishna Kumar and Sandeep Waraich are all on hand answer questions from the Nexus faithful, and here are some of the highlights so far:

Q: What does the "X" and the "P" stand for?

X for the core of the Nexus brand (plus it sounds cool!), P for premium.

Q: Was it a conscious decision to leave out Qi wireless charging?

We added Qi wireless charging starting with N4 because plugging in USB micro B was such a hassle! (Which way is up!?) With this year's Nexii, we support USB Type-C which has a reversible connector so there's no more guessing. AND it charges incredibly swiftly: 1% to 100% in 97 mins on the 6P for example (the first ~45 mins of charging is especially fast). Meanwhile, wireless charging adds z (thickness). So, ease of plugging in + fast charging + optimizing for thinness made us double down on Type-C instead of wireless!
Q: What made the team decide to partner with Huawei and LG this year for the Nexus devices?

5X: We wanted to bring the LG-Google band back together. So many N5 fans, we couldn't possibly disappoint! 6P: Always nice to work with new players — we have a history of working with a bunch of folks: HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Asus and now Huawei!

Q: Why is 16gb still the base model for the Nexus 5x in 2015?

The idea here was to strike a balance between premium features/experiences and affordability.

Q: Is the rear facing camera on the 6P and 5X identical?

Yes. Both devices have the same camera - a 12.3MP camera, with a large 1.55um pixels, which works great in all conditions - especially low light. And both have LDAF for fast auto-focus.

Q: Does the Nexus 5X have USB 3.1?

Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are the new smartphones from Google. Nexus 5X has been manufactured by LG, while 6P is made by Huawei.  With the Nexus 6P, Google has introduced an all metal Nexus smartphone, which is a first.

So what’s the difference between the two Nexus smartphones? We take a closer look at the specs of the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.

Screen, Dimensions, Build:The Nexus 5X has a 5.2 inch screen with FHD (1920×1080) resolution. It’s an LCD screen at 423 ppi with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It has fingerprint and smudge-resistant oleophobic coating. The dimensions of the Nexus 5 X are 147.0 x 72.6 x 7.9 mm.

Nexus 6P comes with a bigger screen at 5.7 inches with WQHD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED display at 518 ppi. It has 16:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 as well as fingerprint and smudge-resistant oleophobic coating. The dimensions are 159.3 X 77.8 X 7.3 mm and it weighs 178 g.

While the Nexus 6P weighs more than the Nexus 5X, it is the slimmer smartphone of the two. In terms of design, Nexus 6P is an all-metal smartphone which Google says is made from “aeronautical-grade aluminum,” while the Nexus 5X has a ‘molded polycarbonate’ body.

Processor, RAM, Storage:Nexus 6P comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-core 64-bit processor, Adreno 430 GPU and 3 GB LPDDR4 RAM. It will come in internal storage options of 32 GB, 64 GB, or 128 GB, making it the first Nexus device to come in 128 GB option.

Nexus 5X has Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor hexa-core 64-bit processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, Adreno 418 GPU. It has 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM and will come in only 16 and 32GB storage options.

Both phones also come with an Android Sensor Hub, which is like the co-processor in Apple’s iPhones. The Android Sensor Hub detects movement on the phone and is linked to the camera sensors as well. The idea is to reduce power consumption and improve battery life in the new Nexus smartphones.

Both phones don’t support an expandable memory slot.

Nexus 6P has an all metal design and a slimmer body than previous Nexus smartphones.

Camera:With the Nexus 6P, Google has gone for a 12.3 mp rear camera with a f/2.0 aperture and IR Laser-Assisted autofocus. The phone can record in 4K (30 fps) and has dual-flash. The front camera on Nexus 6P is 8 megapixels with f.24 and HD video-capture capability.

Both Nexus smartphones come with a 1.55 µm pixels size, which Google says lets them take better pictures in low-light than rivals like S6, iPhone 6s etc.

The Nexus 5X rear camera is also 12.3 mp with f/2.0 aperture, IR laser-assisted autofocus and dual-flash. The front camera is 5 megapixels in the Nexus 5X with f/2.0.

Battery:Nexus 6P comes with a 3,450 mAh battery as was rumoured. Google has not specified how long the battery will last, although it is promising up to 7 hours of use from just 10 minutes of charging.

Nexus 5X has a 2,700 mAh battery and Google is promising 3.8 hours of use after 10 minutes of charging.

Google has also introduced a Doze mode in Android M OS, which will shut down background app activity when it detects that the phone has not been used for some time.

Connectivity options, Ports:With both smartphones, Google has ditched the regular micro-USB and both come with the new Type-C USB charging. Both Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X have single-SIM Nano slots.

In terms of WiFi, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X both support Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2×2 MIMO, dual-band; Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and both support LTE TDD and FDD which means they should be LTE enabled in India as well.

Both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have Type-C USB charging.

Sensors, Other features:With the new Nexus series, Google has introduced its fingerprint sensor called Nexus Imprint, which it is says is lightning fast and can be used to make purchases via Android Pay.

While Nexus 6P has dual-front facing speakers, Nexus 5X has single-front facing speakers. Both smartphones will run Android M aka Marshmallow, the latest OS from Google.

Nexus 6P will come in Aluminium, Graphite and Frost colours essentially Black, Silver and White. Nexus 5X comes in Carbon, Quartz and Ice colour options which is Black, Blue and White.

Pricing:Nexus 6P starts at $499 for a 32GB variant, the 64GB model will cost $549, and 128GB model starts at $649. In India, Nexus 6P will be available starting mid-October at Rs 39,999 for the 32GB variant. The Nexus 5X will start at Rs 31,900 in India and will available from mid-October.

Google.com is probably one of the most expensive (if not THE most expensive) domains names in the world. But Sanmay Ved, an ex-Google employee based in Kutch, was able to buy it for just Rs. 800 earlier this week. Unfortunately, he owned it for just a minute. Here’s how the story unfolded.

Ved was browsing around Google Domains, Google’s domain registration product, when he found, by chance, that Google.com was available to buy for just $12. Naturally, he clicked through, and was able to add it to his cart and buy it.

“I was hoping I would get an error at sometime saying transaction did not go through, but I was able to complete purchase, and my credit card was actually charged!” wrote Ved on his LinkedIn blog.

He added: “Additionally, my Google Search Console (aka Google Webmaster Tools) was auto-updated with webmaster related messages for the Google.com domain which actually means ownership was transferred to me.”

Unfortunately, his elation lasted for all of 60 seconds, since he immediately got an email from Google Domains about the cancellation of his purchase. Google was able to do this instantly, since the company owns Google Domains, unlike Microsoft, which wasn’t able to get back Hotmail.com instantly when something similarhappened in 2003.

Ved is currently an MBA student at Babson College, outside of Boston, but he previously worked for Google from 2007 to 2012 according to his LinkedIn profile.

Research firm IHS Technology says Apple’s iPhone 6s and 6s Plus costs $211.50 and $236, respectively, in terms of hardware. The most costly feature of the new iPhones is the 3D Touch which is marked at $52.50. This is followed by the A9 processor at $22. The 16 GB NAND flash chip is believed to cost $5.50 approximately, and WLAN module and battery are estimated around $6 and$4.50.

The on board audio hardware, NFC controller, accelerometer/gyroscope, barometer and compass come in together at $18. Other miscellaneous items that include enclosures, circuit boards and connectors roughly add up to $42, along with assembly fees of $4.50 perdevice.Now that you have all the required info, why wait till the 16th of October for the launch of the new iPhones?Tinker away and put your own device together. Here’s some very cool news for iPhone 6s users –it is reportedly waterproof. How do we know? Well, some people at iFixit decided to dunk their iPhone 6s into the water in order to see what happens.They found that the iPhone 6s is actually somewhat water-resistant. However, you’re probably wondering why Apple didn’t announce this game changing feature. It’s because the iPhone 6s is not entirely waterproof. So, let’s find out how waterproof the iPhone 6s really is.

iFixit, a private company, broke down the iPhone 6s for us all, and found that the new device actually hassome of the waterproof tech that Apple has alreadypatented. Apple has redesigned the iPhone’s internal structure in order to bring this product closer to its goal of making a fullywater-resistant smartphone.

The purpose of the glue band around the display screen is reportedly more than just to make the screen stick better to the metal. It’s actually also to keep liquids out. When iFixit took a close look at the logic board, they found that every cable connector was surrounded by a small silicon seal, that keeps the water away. This is also reportedly the first time, that Apple has used such a technology.

However, as mentioned before, the reason Apple hasn’t marked this iPhone as waterproof is because all its components haven’t been water-proofed. For example, its headphone jack and speakers will still let water flow in. But, we can most definitely anticipate Apple to create afully water-proof iPhone soon enough. Let’s hope till then.
